World Trade Center | Sustainable Design Guidelines & Reference Manual

The WTC Sustainable Design Guidelines constitute a new model for urban-scale complex projects realized over an extended time frame. They were shaped as part of a consensus which included PANYNJ, LMDC, outside "green groups", NYSERDA and Silverstein Properties.

The Sustainable Design Guidelines capture the urban scale, mixed use and whole-system attributes of the redevelopment and have expanded significantly on the traditional model for green guidelines. The guidelines were designed to overall exceed the objectives of NY State Executive Order 111, which includes meeting the USGBC's Leadership in Energy Efficiency (LEED®) Green Building Rating System's certified level.

The guidelines capture resource efficiencies inherent to high-density urban areas, include resource management plans, provide flexibility for design teams and develop a unique approach to incorporating tenants as part of an environmental exemplar.
